Proven
expertise.
ARGUS International Steuerberatungsgesellschaft mbH (formerly Argus UP) has existed since 2009 and has specialised since 2013 in international tax advice for private clients. The vast majority of our work involves cross-border matters: employees seconded abroad, taxpayers with domestic and foreign residences, foreign taxpayers with German-source income, and returnees after long assignments abroad.
Over the past decade we have specialised further in employee secondment — and within that, the tax specifics of German development cooperation: taxation of staff of development organisations (commercial, charitable and church-based) as well as German and international public entities and NGOs.
Many clients come to us when their previous adviser reaches the limits of international matters. Treaty relief, exit taxation, residence questions and secondment contracts are our daily practice — what elsewhere requires lengthy onboarding is established routine for us.
You reach a coordinated team that knows your matter — not a call centre. Flat hierarchies and short paths deliver timely, reliable answers. We advise and correspond in German and English at full technical depth.

Forbusinesses.
Globalisation is everywhere: German companies enter foreign markets while foreign companies target Germany. Cross-border opportunities bring complex tax questions. And a company's own investments — securities held in Germany or abroad — raise tax questions of their own.
Many serious tax consequences of foreign engagement are unknown at first and only recognised later — at high cost. You should know these critical points:
For indi-viduals.
Is your employer seconding you abroad, or are you taking a job abroad? Do you live abroad but have German-source income — for example from property or activities here? Are you a consultant working mostly abroad? Or you hold a securities account with a foreign bank or online broker — in which case your investment income needs to be declared in Germany.
German tax law often claims taxing rights even if you live abroad. Clarifying German tax claims early protects you from surprises.

Development cooperation
As a German tax firm we have advised clients for more than ten years with a focus on globally mobile employees and consultants of leading development organisations (NGOs, church services, foundations, associations, non-profit companies…).
Tax analysis and support for secondments into development cooperation
Income tax returns with complex foreign nexus
Alignment with secondment policies and employer processes
Advice and correspondence in German and English
Availability and representation before German tax authorities
Bilateral coordination with foreign advisers where useful
What we do not provide: advice on the domestic tax law of countries other than Germany. Within the EU we can often recommend advisers with whom we have already worked well.
Let's talk about
your taxes.
We advise and support you on all tax matters. If you have questions or would like a cost estimate, email or call us. We look forward to hearing from you!
As a tax firm we are generally bound by the German tax advisors’ fee schedule (StBVV). Covered services are billed accordingly. Tax briefings for an initial assessment are billed at the initial consultation fee of EUR 280 net. For international matters such an analysis meeting is usually a prerequisite for sensible follow-up advice and a correct return.
We work digitally and largely paper-light. Communication is preferably by email. You can send information and documents in almost any way you prefer. For sensitive documents you may use existing FTP/cloud storage, or we provide software for secure upload.
